This model of the atlanto-occipital joint represents the movement mechanics of the upper cervical spine at two times magnification. It includes the atlas (C1), the axis (C2), the third cervical vertebra (C3), and a segment of the occipital bone, and allows for a clear demonstration of the movement sequences in the atlanto-occipital and atlanto-axial joints.
The enlarged representation clearly shows joint surfaces, axes of movement, and rotational, flexion, and extension movements. The model is mounted on a removable stand and is suitable for teaching, training, and demonstration purposes. It serves to clearly explain the mechanics of the atlanto-occipital joint and is not intended for diagnostic or therapeutic applications.
